主な研究課題

1. FRONTWARE

本学の計算機環境は、世界でも有数のものであるが、この計算機環境を有効に運用・利用するための独自のソフトウエア、いわゆるFRONTWAREの開発や新しい利用技術の研究を行なう。

2. MPPの利用技術

次世代の計算機アーキテクチャとして、MPP(超並列プロセッサ)が考えられているが、このようなアーキテクチャを有効に利用するには、その特殊性にあわせたソフトウエアが必要となる。 例えばMPPは10^4プロセッサ程度のMPPでも、1プロセッサ当たりの平均故障間隔を10^5時間とすると、システム全体では10時間に1回の故障が起きることになり、ソフトウエアも耐故障の機構が必要となる。 このような特殊な性質を考慮したMPP用のソフトウエアの研究を行なう。

3. 分散環境としてのオブジェクトベース

分散環境の歴史は、10年を数えようとしているが、資源を表現するために用いられている技術は、過去の抽象化の技術に基づいたものである。 本研究では、より抽象度の高い方法、具体的にはオブジェクト指向の手法を用い、計算機環境全体を捉え直すことにより、統合的な基盤を実現し、より操作性の高い環境、より直観的なとらえ方が可能な環境を提供するための研究を行なう。
