01/Dissertation PhD Program for foreign faculties who'd like to get Ph.D

  • APPLICABLE COUNTRIES:
    Countries listed in the JSPS application guidelines.
  • ELIGIBILITY OF RONPAKU FELLOW:
    • 1)Who has not obtained a PhD degree from a university
    • 2)Who wishes to obtain a PhD degree from a Japanese university through the submission a dissertation.
    • 3)Who has already achieved substantial research results and is likely through dissertation research under the program to successfully obtain a PhD degree, as well as is nominated by a home advisor and the president of his/her affiliated university/research institution.
    • 4)Who has nationality in an applicable country (listed in the application guidelines)
    • 5)Who is employed full time at a university or research institution in his/her home country or will be appointed to such a position by April 1, 2016
    • 6)Who is 45 years of age or younger as of April 1, 2016
  • FELLOWSHIP TENURE:
    Maximum of 3 years from April 1, 2016
  • SUPPORTED EXPENSES:
    Maximum of 3.6 million yen (Up to 1.2 million yen per fiscal year)
  • REQUIRED DOCUMENTS:
    Applicants are required to submit an application form (R01) prepared by themselves and a recommendation letter (R02) prepared by your affiliation.
  • INTERNAL DEADLINE:
    July 31, 2015

02/JSPS Invitation Fellowship/Long-term/2016-2017

  • PROGRAM NAME:
    JSPS Invitation Fellowship for Research in Japan (Long-term) 2016-2017
  • CANDIDATE (FELLOW) ELIGIBILITY:
    Researchers who hold a full-time position in an overseas research institution and satisfy the following requirements:
    • 1) Be a citizen or permanent resident of a country that has diplomatic relations with Japan (Taiwanese and Palestinian researchers will be treated in this manner.) To be eligible, researchers of Japanese nationality residing overseas must have lived in the other country for at least 10 years and been actively engaged in research in that country throughout the period.
    • 2) Overseas researchers in a position equivalent to a university professor, associate professor or assistant professor in Japan as of April 1, 2016.
    • 3) Overseas researchers who do not have above-mentioned careers but received their doctorate degree prior to six years or more as of April 1, 2016 and are continuing to do research in a university or non-profit research institution.
      Note: The same person may not simultaneously be a candidate for this program and JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowships for Overseas Researchers or Invitation Fellowships for Research in Japan (Long-term, Short-term S)
  • DURATION AND COMMENCEMENT OF FELLOWSHIPS:
    • 1) 2 months to 10 months
    • 2) Successful candidates must start the Fellowship in Japan during the following period:
      April 1, 2016 - March 31, 2017
  • TERMS OF AWARD (FELLOWS ONLY):
    • 1) A round-trip air ticket (based on JSPS’s regulations)
    • 2) A monthly maintenance allowance of 387,600 yen
    • 3) Overseas travel insurance
  • INTERNAL DEADLINE:
    August 17, 2015

03/JSPS Invitation Fellowship for Research/Short-term/2016-2017

  • PROGRAM NAME:
    JSPS Invitation Fellowship for Research in Japan (Short-term) 2016-2017
  • CANDIDATE (FELLOW) ELIGIBILITY:
    Researchers who hold full-time positions in an overseas research institution and satisfy the following requirements:
    • 1) Be a citizen or permanent resident of a country that has diplomatic relations with Japan (Taiwanese and Palestinian researchers will be treated in this manner.) To be eligible, researchers of Japanese nationality residing overseas must have lived in the other country for at least 10 years and been actively engaged in research in that country throughout the period.
    • 2) Overseas researchers in a position equivalent to a university professor or associate professor as of April 1, 2016.
    • 3) Overseas researchers with an excellent record of research achievements.

Note: The same person may not simultaneously be a candidate for this program and JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowships for Overseas Researchers or Invitation Fellowships for Research in Japan (Long-term, Short-term S)

  • DURATION AND COMMENCEMENT OF FELLOWSHIPS:
    • 1) 14 to 60 days
    • 2) Successful candidates must start the Fellowship in Japan during the following periods:
      • For the 1st Recruitment: April 1, 2016 - March 31, 2017
      • For the 2nd Recruitment: October 1, 2016 - March 31, 2017
  • TERMS OF AWARD (FELLOWS ONLY):
    • 1) A round-trip air ticket (based on JSPS’s regulations)
    • 2) A daily maintenance allowance of 18,000 yen
    • 3) Overseas travel insurance
  • REQUIRED FORM:
    For applicants, no required form, but take a look at the following:
  • INTERNAL DEADLINES:
    • 1st Recruitment: August 17, 2015
    • 2nd Recruitment: April 12, 2016
