講演題目 Vega Grid: Research Problems and Technical Advances (3/22)
Grid Research in China and Potential Cooperation with Japan (3/24)

講演要旨
1. Vega Grid: Research Problems and Technical Advances
As IT move into a net-centric era, basic issues and abstractions in
computer science research need to be re-examined. This talk will focus on
net-centric operating system for grid and service- oriented computing. The
speaker will address three issues: (1) How to allow transparent access to
net resources through virtualization? (2) How to support virtual
organizations dynamically formed by net resources and users? (3) How to
adapt to the autonomous and dynamically changing nature of the net
environment, with a distributed system with no centralized kernel?
After reviewing related work in the international community, the speaker
will present the technical advances by the Vega Grid research team in the
past five years, including a loosely coupled architecture, a three-layer
virtualization scheme, a systems abstraction supporting virtual
organizations, and a runtime construct for distributed processes.

2. Grid Research in China and Potential Cooperation with Japan
Since 2000, e-Science and grid computing have been a growing computer
science research thrust worldwide. In this talk, the speaker will review the
status and trends of major grid computing research projects in USA, Japan,
Europe, and China. In particular, he will contrast two national projects in
detail: the China National Grid (CNGrid) project and Japan National Research
Grid Initiative (NAREGI). He will discuss potential cooperation areas in
promoting basic research, resource sharing, applications, international
technical standards.

講演者略歴
