| Here we introduce the facilities and equipment of the School of Knowledge Science and the education and research environment of this chair and JAIST as a whole. |
| Providing a Seamless Global Multimedia Education and Research Environment |
In order to support active education and research activities carried out by teachers and students, we provide the most advanced multimedia education and research environment, including the following materials and resources that are based on the world's largest-scale ultrahigh-speed network:
- Easy access to worldwide databases;
- Multifunctional computer terminals that enable seamless research activities both on and off-campus (including telephones and FAX machines);
- One multimedia workstation for each teacher and student; and
- An electronic TV conference system in support of idea generation and multimedia information editing and assessment experiment facility.

| Facilities and equipment appropriate to education and research interaction across the disciplines |
The School of Knowledge Science facilitates the day-to-day interaction of education and research across the disciplines between the social and natural sciences, promotes the school's policy of providing facilities and equipment (FRONT Plan) in order to encourage intellectual inspiration based on such interactions, and provides the following facilities for education and research interaction within this graduate research program:

| Center for Knowledge Science |
| The Center for Knowledge Science was established in April, 1998 as the 4th on-campus joint education and research facility. We will implement knowledge archives for the management and control of various large-scale knowledge data, a model base management system supporting the modeling of large-scale, complicated and ambiguous issues, a large-scale simulator of complex systems that enables the simulation of large-scale and complex systems, and various types of collaboration rooms for knowledge creation and training for intellectual productivity improvement. |

| The implementation of ultrahigh-speed, large-scale simulator of complex systems |
|
In order to solve various issues regarding large-scale or complex systems, we will implement a large-scale simulator of complex systems that enables ultrahigh-speed scientific and engineering calculations and large-scale simulations including prediction and simulations of global environment, natural resources and energy, the analysis of organizational dynamics, simulations of evolution, genetic algorithm research, molecular design, mechanical design and fluid equation calculations. |
