For student

Welcome to the homepage of GOKON Lab.

Our lab was established in April 2019. Currently, we are conducting research with students from various countries, including students from China, Indonesia, and Thailand. The main research topics our students work on are related to disaster prevention. Disasters occur at the intersection of natural phenomena (hazards) and human society. Therefore, in order to develop technologies to protect people, we must look at both physical and social phenomena. In order to solve issues where various phenomena are intricately intertwined, it is not possible to solve problems by working on only one area of research. Therefore, in our laboratory, we are challenging various necessary research areas regardless of the field, from engineering research to social science research and knowledge science research that fuses them.

The schedule for JAIST students to work on their research

Although the master's period is two years, the time to concentrate on research is surprisingly short. The schedule envisioned by JAIST would be as follows:

M1 M2
April:Matriculation April:Job sesarching
April - July:Coursework+Laboratory Selection April - December:Research------ ②
August - September:Internship、Summer Intensive Handouts ※There is a Mid-term presentation in the middle of September
August - Next Year March:Research ------ ① January:Write paper
February - March:Job sesarching February:Take a presentation of Master's dissertation
The end of March:Research proposal submittion March:Revising a master's thesis or moving to a new location

About ①:

・Survey of previous studies

・Acquisition of research data

・Mastery of basic analysis methods for research data

→ August will be busy with internships and intensive lectures, but try to find the research you want to do by reading a few papers.

About ②:

・Data Analysis

・Interpretation of Analysis Results

・Conference presentations and journal submissions

・Participation in Workshops

→ Although it is difficult to manage time during the job search period, it will be easier later on if you set a routine and proceed with a little research and analysis of previous research.
