Desiging and Application of Global Education Focusing on Practicality and Collaboration for Solution of Global Issues: A Dialectical Development from International Education Conventional education at all levels are structured within the framework of nation-state. Endless pursuance of national interests has escalated competitions among nations and resulted in abuse of resources and destruction of environment in a global scale which pose serious common global problems including human survival in the furture to every human being. Despite this urgent situation, education today still focuses on adaptation to the existing society, loyalty to the nation, and victory in the competitive society and has caused a deadly delay in coping with the sinificant global issues. Taking advantage of the availability of world-wide communication brought by advancement of science and technology, we have to urgently develop and practice global education focusing on practicality and collaborations. This research will be conducted collaboratively by researchers at JAIST, Kanazawa University, Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University and the Center for the Study of Global Issues (GLOBIS) at the University of Georgia for four years starting in 2012. The primary foci of this research are: 1) exchange of opinions about global issues among students with diverse cultural and academic backgrounds by the use of TV conference system; 2) policy formation for solution of global issues among them through face-to-face workshops; and 3) advancement of relevant fields of study in the global context. This research will also develop global education curriculum for junior and senior high schools in Japan and the U.S.
