Discovery of Patterns and/or Models
- A model is a global description of a data set, a high level
population or large sample perspective
- A pattern is a low level summary of a relationship,
perhaps which holds only for a few records or for only a
- A pattern is seen as a statement S in a language L that
describes a subset D(S) of a database D with a quality q(S)
- A model tells us about correlation between variables
(regression), about clusters of cases (clustering), etc.
