Study of Intelligence C Summary of Lecture 3 on 17th June, 2002, by Fujinami A. Participants We had 14 participants with one TA for this 3rd lecture. B. We have done the followings at the third lecture: 1. Stretching and warming up by Shun (15 min.) We then move up to the collaboration room on the 5th flour. We continue stretching ourselves in the room (5 min.) 2. Exercise: Attuning ourselves to sounds (50 min.) We voiced a series of sounds, starting from the vowel, “A”, continuing voicing the other vowels, “I”, “U”, “E”, and “O”. We observed which part of the body is particularly resonant to each sound. 3. Playing Metalog (30 min.) We first played the English version of Metalog (1) in turn. We then played it in Japanese based on the Japanese translation. All the participants play some role in this session. 4. Collection of homework Readings for this week (1) Gregory Bateson, Metalog: How Much Do You Know? , from Steps of Ecology of Mind, (佐藤 良明訳, 「精神の生態学」より 「知識の量を測ること」) (2) Francisco Varela, Evan Thompson, and Eleanor Rosch, “The Embodied Mind” (1991) Chapter 1 and 2 from Part I. (田中 靖夫訳「身体化された心」) The lecture was the last session of the first circle for introduction. For the first time, we examined our body and mind using voice in the exercise. We experienced all the basic elements of this class now.
