Introduction

Hi all! My name is Nguyễn Việt Cường (IPA Pronunciation: mrcuongnv) and it can be written as Nguyen Viet Cuong or Viet Cuong Nguyen in English. However, in Japan, they write my name as NGUYEN Cuong Viet. My family name is Nguyễn nguyen, middle name is Việt viet, and given name is Cường cuong. In formal usage, they often refer me by my given name (Cường), not by my family name (Nguyễn). And an interesting information, Nguyễn is the most popular family name in Vietnam (38.4% of population in an unofficial statistic).

Currently, I am a Ph.D. student at Shimazu-Shirai Laboratory in School of Information Science in Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, Japan. My research focuses on Text Summarization, which is a field of Natural Language Processing. My supervisor is Prof. Akira Shimazu.

Interests

I am interested in many aspects of Computer Science, such as Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, Networking and Software Engineering.

Coding is also one of my interests. I can code in many languages in both Linux and Windows platform, such as C/C++, PHP, Perl, Python, C#, Java... and also Pascal, which is the first programming language in my life. I use C/C++, Java and Python for my research applications, PHP for web applications, C# for desktop applications and Pascal for learning algorithms in the past.

I am a fan of Linux in particular and Open Source in general. Most of my applications are based on open source software. In September 2003, Mr. Le Quang Hieu, I and some colleagues founded a group called Open Source Group at College of Technology, Vietnam National University, Hanoi. Our group welcomes everyone who wants to study on Open Source Software and Linux.

Besides computer science, taking photographs is also my main hobby. See my gallery on Flickr.
