*幼児の新奇語学習に関する計算論的モデル [#e998d02e]
2，3歳児はある言葉を初めて聞いた場合でも、その言葉を他の物体へ一般化することが知
られている。この1事例からの素早い学習は、幼児の効率的な言語獲得の基礎であると考
えられる。ここでは、単語の事例がある特徴空間上の分布として定式でき、その分布を推
定する事を「学習」あるいは「一般化」できた、としよう。
図(a)は、ある単語をその単語の参照する事例の確率分布として特徴空間に(模式的に)表
現したものである。図(b),(c)には、確率分布の等高線として複数の単語の事例分布が示
されている。ある学習者にとって未知な単語を★(その分布を破線)で示し、その他の単語
を既に学習ずみとする。図(b)の単語分布の場合、周辺の既知の単語分布から、新奇な単
語(★)の分布を推定する(単語を一般化する)ことが可能である。一方、図(c)の単語分布
の場合、周辺の既知単語分布をもってしても、推定が難しい。これは、「単語確率分布の
分布」（メタ分布)あるいは「単語知識に関する知識」(メタ知識)の構造が、図(b)では規
則的・連続性があるのに対し、図(c)では不規則・ランダムであるからである。
つまり、この計算論的なモデルから、幼児のように未知の単語を素早く学習するために
は、言語(単語分布)の構造に統計的な規則性が必要である事がわかる。
