Skills and background we are looking for in prospective students

Our research area covers innovation science, educational psychology, design science, STEAM learning, business management, technology for social creativity, etc. We are expecting students who are willing to make efforts to think creatively rather than focusing on familiar ideas.

What you can expect to learn in this laboratory

In this rapidly changing society, it might happen that what we learned in school became obsolete, even useless after a few years from graduation. However, the main goal of learning in Kim lab is to cultivate an open mindset to think creatively and generate innovations by reflecting our thinking process and seeking answers on the fundamental questions.

Research outline

We study almost all of topics on promoting innovations by encouraging scientifying students’ intellectual curiosities.

For examples:

  • Creativity and innovation: Flow, disruptive innovation, creative cognitive process, designing a tool for creativity, evaluation in new ideas, etc.
  • Learning experiences: Technology-aid learning, learning process, STEAM learning, content design, active learning, innovations in learning, motivation and teaching method, etc.
  • Social innovations: regional innovation, utilizing technologies for minorities, creating a business ideas, etc.
  • Way of working: knowledge management, group creativity, organizational learning, team building, interactive flow, generation gap, etc.
  • Economic life : Fintech, Consumer’s behaviors in mobile service, etc.

Teaching policy

Students are required to select their own research theme and conduct a research with responsibility. We have a weekly lab seminar to discuss students’ research progress, and sharing issues in conducting research and lab life. Students can use both English or Japanese, however, for doctoral students, it is required to conduct their research in English.
