The Knowledge Innovation Research Center held its first seminar, featuring a special lecture by Professor Yuko Fujigaki from the University of Tokyo and a discussion on the challenges of applying Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) at JAIST. Professor Fujigaki provided an overview of scientists\u2019 social responsibilities, highlighting the limitations of defining responsibility solely by researchers’ intentions, and introduced RRI as an inclusive concept. The lecture outlined three key elements of RRI\u2014open-up questions, mutual discussion, and new institutionalization\u2014illustrated with concrete examples to emphasize its importance. In the subsequent discussion, participants acknowledged the need to involve students in RRI initiatives and to foster mutual discussion within the JAIST community. The necessity for researchers to adopt RRI as part of “their commitment” was also affirmed. The seminar concluded by suggesting the potential for new research developments through RRI and clarifying the need to promote its adoption within JAIST.
