[Cray XC40] Service end for system replacement

The service of Computing server "Cray XC40" will be terminated at the end  of December 2020.

This is a measure to facilitate the replacement of the next system.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you and appreciate your  understanding.

The details of the next system will be announced separately.

Please note that you will not be able to access your data in the working  directory "/work" after the service ends.

Be sure to read the following information before using Cray XC40 in the future.

If your collaborators outside JAIST are also using Cray XC40, please forward this announcement to them if necessary.

  << Detail >>

 1. End-of-service computing server

   Cray XC40 (login name: xc40)

 2. Service termination date and time

   December 31, 2020, at 12 midnight

 3. Cautions

3.1 The system will be shut down without notice after the service ends.

Please finish your job by the end of the service.

3.2 You will not be able to access the data in the working directory "/work".

     1) Be sure to move the necessary data to the home directory "/home" or "Project" directory(*1) before the service ends.

     2) We will also terminate "/work" directory on other computing servers at the same time.

(Announcement: "Termination of "/work" directory service for computing servers")

     3) It may take longer than expected to move your data.

It may take several weeks to move your 1TB data because many users will be moving data at the same time and the I/O load will increase.

Be sure to move your data with a sufficient margin.

     4) The following is a description of "Staging(*2)" technique for XC40, which uses your data in your "/home" directory or "Project" directory. We recommend that you move all your data to "/home" directory etc. as soon as possible, and then continue the calculation.

       *1: Project directory

          https://www.jaist.ac.jp/iscenter/en/storage/project/

       *2: Staging

          https://www.jaist.ac.jp/iscenter/mpc/xc40/3/#c4810

 4. Please use computing server "vpcc" or "lmpcc" until the next system service is started.

Please refer to the following page for more information about the features of each server.

For more information, please contact RCACI, via our email: isc-query(at)ml.jaist.ac.jp.

Thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation.
