In this presentation, we will briefly deal with two distinctive topics. In the first half, we will discuss the gap between formal linguists and Darwinian evolutionists regarding their recognition of "evolution". The recent surge of interests revolving around evolutionary perspectives from formal linguists has been much appreciated. However, their recognitions seem to be on an unavoidable collision course of neo-Darwinism. We explore a possible consolidation of their views. In the second half, a new type of canalization will be discussed. As was in Monday's Dr. Suzuki's talk, canalization has been known as a close concept to both genetic assimilation and the Baldwin effect. However, it is also true that the concept is somewhat muddled-up with the later two. We first clear the concept, and look at a third-type (after the two well-known canalizing phenomena, namely genetic and environmental canalizations) of canalization based on a niche-constructing property of learning.
