JAIST Book Classification Table

The JAIST Book Classification System was created in March 1996, in order to classify scientific material belonging to the Institute. At present, all the books in the Library are arranged according to this system.

Merit

  • There are 3 main classification areas: Information Science, Materials Science, and Mathematics. Each area is further divided into 3 sections.

  • The Information Science and Mathematics sections were based on the Iwanami Information Science Dictionary, and the Advanced Materials Hand Book and Advanced Electronics Materials Encyclopedia were referred to for the Materials Science area.

  • The basic composition of classification numbers is a combination ofone numbers and letter.

  • The classification numbers for Information Science have a 'C' for 'Computer Science', and the Materials Science area has an 'M' for 'Materials Science'.

    *Example: C31.1 Computer System Outline
    M01.2 Elasticity Dynamics
    410.5 Function Analysis
