History of the JAIST Library

1990 Oct. The Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology and the library was established.
1991 Mar. The library administration system was introduced.
    <The library was set up temporarily in the wing of the school of Information Science.>
1992 Sep. An agreement on the use of the library center of Kanazawa Institute of Technology Library Center was concluded.
1995 Apr. The Japanese version of the library website was established.
  Dec. Construction of the library began.
1996 Mar. An entrance and exit control system was installed.
  Apr. The library was opened.
    Service for the general public started (except the lending service).
  Jul. Academic dissertations were made public on the library website.
1997 Apr. The self-checkout machine was installed.
    The book detection system was installed.
  Oct. The Online Public Access Catalog was launched.
1998 Jan. The lending status reference service through the library website was launched.
1999 Mar. Two compact shelving were installed on the 3rd floor.
  Jul. The English version of the library website was established.
2001 Jun. An exhibition of rare books and the library tour was held for the Open Campus event. (Held every year thereafter.)
  Nov. The book lending service for the general public was launched.
2002 Apr. The library joined the Consortium of the Japan Association of National University Libraries. The electronic journal service was officially launched.
2005 Jun. An agreement for cooperation with the Association of Ishikawa Public Libraries was concluded.
2007 Mar. MyLibrary (portal site) was added to the website.
  May The JAIST Repository was made accessible to the public.
    The library joined the Ishikawa Library Information Network of libraries in Ishikawa prefecture.
2008 Apr. The transport service of materials by Ishikawa Prefectural Library began.
  Dec. The first library exhibition: "Most Impressive Business Books: Best 15" was held. (Held every year thereafter.)
2011 Nov. The Learning Commons "J-BEANS" was opened.
2012 Mar. "Mission Statement 2012" was established.
  Apr. E-book service was officially launched.
  May The first J-BEANS Seminar was held. (Held about 10 times every year thereafter.)
2014 May The library new wing was opened.
