Professional Wrestler a Candidate for House of Councilors
プロレスラー参院選候補に
Three candidates are vying for a seat as one of the Ishikawa
representatives in the House of Councilors (the Upper House) of the
National Diet. They are the incumbent Takashi Awamori of the Japan
Renewal Party, independant candidate Hiroshi Hase, and Japan Communist
Party candidate Y冖o Nishio. Hase, a former Olympian and a popular
professional wrestler, has the backing of the Liberal Democratic
Party, while Awamori has endorsements from the Komeito Party and the
Democratic Reform Coalition. The election will be held on July 23rd.
国家参院選挙石川選挙区に３名の出馬を予定している。現職新進党の粟森喬
さん、無所属新人の馳浩さんと共産党新人の西尾洋子さんである。馳は元オリ
ンピック代表と人気プロレスラーで自民党からの推薦があり、粟森は公明党と
民主改革連合のサポートがある。選挙は７月２３日に行われる。
Nonoichi Murder Case Still Unresolved
野々市殺人事件未解決
A 22-year old woman was found dead under mysterious circumstances in
her Nonoichi apartment on June 10th. Mizue Kuwamori, a Toyama native
and a recent university graduate, is believed to be strangled by hand
by a person she whom probably knew. Police is focusing its
investigations on several of the victim's male acquaintances.
6月10日、22歳の女性が野々市にあるアパートの自室で変死体で発見された。
富山出身で大学を卒業したばかりの桑守瑞恵さんは顔見知りの犯人に素手で絞
殺されたと思われている。現在、警察は被害者の知り合いの男性数名を中心に
捜査をしている。
Bus Stop Name Change Proposed
バス停の名称変更が提案される
Kanazawa University and the Kanazawa Self Defence Force Base made
presentations at a community meeting on June 9th to discuss the
university's proposal to change the name of a bus stop at Heiwa-cho
The university wishes to change the name from "Jieitai-mae" (Self
Defense Force Base) to "Kindai Fuzoku Gakko mae" (Schools Attached to
Kanazawa University) to avoid confusion by visitors to the
kindergarten, elementary and junior high schools operated by the
university which will be moved to the neighborhood this July. The
military base argued that the present bus stop name has been in use
for 35 years and wish to keep it as is. A proposal was made to
combine both names however the bus company turned it down on grounds
that it was too long.
金沢大学と金沢自衛隊駐屯地が6月9日、地元町内会で大学側から提案があっ
た平和町のバス停名の変更について協議を行った。今年7月に金大付属幼稚園、
小学校、中学校がこの地に移転したあと、来訪客が混乱することかないように、
大学側では現在使われている「自衛隊前」の名前を「金大付属学校」と変えた
いとしているが、自衛隊は35年間使われている名前をそのままにしたいと答え
た。両方の名称を併記する提案もあったが、バス会社はこの名前は長すぎると
している。
City Technical High School Sumo Tournament Champs
金市工が相撲大会を制覇
On May 28th, 36,000 spectators watched as the Kanazawa City Technical
High School sumo team took both individual and team titles at the 79th
Kanazawa High School Sumo Tournament. In the team event, the school
came out on top of 72 schools, while third-year student Masato Hirano
won the individual round-robin competition. This is the fourth time
the school has won the team tournament, which attracts many of the top
high school sumo teams in Japan.
5月28日に行われた第79回高校相撲金沢大会で金沢市立工業高校が3万6千人
の観客の中、団体と個人で優勝した。金市工は参加72校のトップに立ち、個人
勝ち取り戦でも3年生の平野正人君が優勝した。この大会は全国トップレベル
の高校相撲部が参加、金市工は今回で通算4回目の団体優勝を果たしている。
Telephone Dating Club Troubled by Prank Calls
テレクラ業者無言電話に悩まされる
A telephone dating club in Kanazawa filed a complaint with the
Kanazawa East Police Station on May 25th because of excessive prank
calls. The establishment claims that on average, 120,000 prank calls
are made every month on their toll-free telephone lines which cost
them over one million yen in toll charges. Police is investigating
for possibilities of an organized business interference.
5月28日、金沢市のテレクラ業者が無言電話による被害届けを金沢東警察署
に出した。業者は月に平均１２万回のフリーダイヤル無言電話によってダイヤ
ルの利用料金百万円以上の被害を受けている。警察では業者に向けた計画的な
営業妨害の可能性で捜査している。
100 Year Olds to Receive 100 "Man" Yen
百歳になると百万円
Yanagida Village announced on May 20th that cash awards will be handed
to village residents who reach birthday milestones and live in private
dwellings. Under this scheme, those who reach their 88th birthday
receive 88,000 yen while 99 year olds receive 99,000 yen. The biggest
award will be for the 100 year olds who receive 1 million yen on their
birthday. The cash awards are to celebrate the long life of the
recepient and to reward their family who are looking after them.
5月20日、柳田村は自宅で暮らす高齢者の誕生日に現金賞を贈ると発表した。
これは88歳の誕生日に8万8千円、99歳に9万9千円、そして100歳の誕生日に100
万円が贈られる計画。高齢者の長寿のお祝いとその家族の労をねぎらう意味で
制度化された。
