As seen in the growth of the Internet, open source software and open standards have played a quite important role in the evolution mechanism of the ICT field. Recently this important role of open source software and open standards has become well recognized in the e-learning field. Open source software and open standards obtain a lot of attraction for enhancing reusability and interoperability of e-learning content as well as for improving cost performance of e-learning platform. Based on this background, this workshop tries to provide an opportunity to share the information on the cutting edge activities of open source software and open standards in the e-learning field and to discuss their significance in the future development of e-learning.
