¢£Research Interests

Protonics is based on integrated sciences and technology using hydrogen. Recently, our group elucidated enhancement phenomena of proton transport properties in the nano-thin film system. We are investigating the origin of that enhancement (nanoprotonics phenomenon), and are applying it to nanoprotonics fuel cells. Protonics is anticipated for their future use as a fundamental technology offering a new degree of freedom for the development of electronics.

Emergent Chemical Device
Our group is also creating the concept of "Chemical Devices", which makes the best use of bottom-up and top-down techniques. Different functional polymers and molecules such as electrolytes, catalysts, and electrodes are strictly integrated with coordination bonds. The fruits of this research contribute to the development of restoration and rewriting technologies related to molecular electronics of the future.

Research summary
Fuel cells, which generate electricity by reacting hydrogen with oxygen to produce water, are ideal power sources for use by future generations. They are suitable for use by a low-carbon society. Protonics is based on integrated sciences and technology of using hydrogen. However, it remains insufficient for application to the development of the Pt-free electrocatalysts and fuel cells. In our group, we are developing the design and creation of fuel cells using the concepts of ¡Ènanoprotonics¡É and ¡Èchemical devices¡É (see below) to create nanoprotonics fuel cells. Furthermore, we are trying to develop future technologies not only for the energy research area but also for many related research areas that can benefit from those concepts.
