The hall and stairs of the library will be used for shooting a video to introduce JAIST. Entering or walking in the library may be temporarily restricted during the shooting. Please be quiet when passing through the hallways on the first floor and using the library. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but your understanding and cooperation will be highly appreciated.
Sep. 24 On October 1 (Thu.), JAIST will be closed for the anniversary of its founding. The issues of the Library User's Card and one-day use are not available. Thank you for your cooperation.

For preventing COVID-19 outbreak, we reduce the seats on the Reading Rooms and Group Study Spaces until May 10for the time being. Please avoid "Three Cs(*)" when using the library.

(*)Three Cs:
    1) CLOSED SPACES with poor ventilation.
    2) CROWDED PLACES with many people nearby.
    3) CLOSE-CONTACT SETTINGS such as close-range conversations.

Announcing the Results of the 35th Exhibition Theme Election!

We are pleased to announce the results of the 35th Exhibition Theme Election, which took place from Monday, October 5 to Tuesday, October 20, 2020, as follows:

According to the above results, we have decided that the next exhibition theme will be [Enjoy "Life"]. The runner-up, [Surprising facts about Money] will be considered as one of future exhibition themes.

Voting for the 35th Exhibition Theme Election begins! (2020/10/5~10/20)

JAIST library holds exhibitions that introduce books from a variety of perspectives as an opportunity to become familiar with books.

As a new attempt, we have planned the first-ever voting event, "Theme Election" where you can choose the theme for the 35th exhibition. Choose the most appealing theme of books to you from the following four themes and put a sticker on the voting board in front of the entrance gate of the library. The theme with the most votes will be the next exhibition theme.

Voting begins on Monday, October 5, 2020
Your vote will determine the theme of the 35th exhibition. Please come and join us.

Repair Work for Glass Railing

Please be informed that we will assemble and remove scaffolds (in the library) due to the repair work for glass railing as below. You can use the library as usual, but please pay attention to the scaffolds when passing through the work area. Please note that you may experience noise during the work.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you, but we appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

Period: From 8:00 on September 17th (Thu.) to 17:00 on September 18th (Fri.)

Lifting service restrictions & the associated special measures for external users

As of 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 1st, JAIST library has lifted service restrictions beginning on April 20th, 2020 for preventing COVID-19 outbreak. Sorry to have caused you inconvenience for a long time.
Please confirm the following changes in response to the lifting restrictions.

  • The due dates of books borrowed before April 20th, 2020
    Wednesday, July 15th, 2020
  • Library User’s Card to be expired on April 30th, 2020
    The expiration date will be extended until Wednesday, September 30th, 2020. Please renew the card if you continue to use it as well as from the expiration date on.


Besides, we would appreciate your cooperation in the following matters when using the library.

  • We might restrict services again in response to the COVID-19 situation. Please check our website before visiting the library.
  • Please wear a mask when visiting the library. In addition, we appreciate your cooperation in using a hand sanitizer and avoiding "Three Cs (CLOSED SPACES, CROWDED PLACES, CLOSE-CONTACT SETTINGS)" when using the library.
  • Group study space and J-BEANS are designated as the spaces for students who participate in online lectures. Please note that interactive lectures accompanied with voices could be included. Thank you for your kind understanding.

Binding Academic Journals

We are planning to bind academic journals as following schedule. Therefore you can not browse or borrow those journals for some period. We are sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for your cooperation.

NOTE:

Binding Materials those published from 2017 to 2018
  (including exceptional ones published after 2018)

Duration: July 1(Wed.), 2020 to September 25(Fri.), 2020

The binding of all materials is scheduled to be completed at the end of August and we will relocate them in the shelves in order soon after the registration has been completed.

[Prevention Measures COVID-19] Suspend Service of Borrowing Materials in Lab

The service of Borrowing Materials in Lab has been suspended for the time being from May 7th(Thu.) because the faculty members are recommended to work from home for preventing COVID-19 outbreak. (Regarding when resuming the service, we will inform you as soon as it is fixed.)
We are sorry for the inconvenience but thank you very much for your understanding.

[IMPORTANT] Stop the Library Service for External Users

We apologize but we decide to stop the library services as follows due to a state of emergency in response to the spread of COVID-19. We are terribly sorry for the inconvenience and thank you so much for your understanding.


Duration: From April 20th to until further notice
Stopping Services: Entering the library, lending the materials, issueing library user's card and all other services

  • About the materials which are out on loan now, their due dates are extended to after the resumption of the library services (excepting the overdue books)
  • About Renewal of the Library User’s Card, the person who has the Library User’s Card which expiration date is April 30th, 2020 and has not done the renewal procedure yet will be able to do the procedure after the resumption of the library services, because we extend the expiration date up to one month after the day of the resumption.
    And we can accept the renewal application by mail during the stop of services, but there is a case that returning the card is delayed.

[Prevention Measures COVID-19] Restriction on Use of J-BEANS

For preventing COVID-19 outbreak, for the time being,
J-BEANS is available only if students watch online lectures.

Please also be sure to open the door and windows to avoid "Three Cs (Clodes Spaces, Crowded Places, Close-contact Settings) when using the room.
