Materials informatics (hereafter termed MI) is one rising area of materials science. It applies data-oriented approaches with expectation to bring irreversible change in the research and development of materials science. MI is in the stage of practical implementation, where intimate cooperation among experimental, analytical, computational and data scientists.
In the International Excellent Core for Materials Informatics, five laboratories in Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology collaboratively aim at novel materials science based on the implementation of MI. We also cultivate young scientists who can design and perform MI researches in an international and multidisciplinary environment.
