JAIST Photo Contest 2025 [Call for Entries]

A quiet moment on campus, a scene from a club or extracurricular activity, someone deeply focused on research, and the greenery that reflects the changing seasons--- these are just a few of the many charming moments found in everyday life at JAIST.
We are inviting submissions of special photos that make people think, “I want to visit JAIST!!” We warmly welcome photo submissions not only from current students and faculty, but also from alumni who wish to share fond memories of their time at JAIST.

Eligibility

Current students, alumni, and faculty/staff of JAIST

Application Period

Monday, June 2 – Friday, August 22, 2025
*Entries must be received by the deadline.

Entry Requirements

➢Each participant may submit up to 3 individual photos (no photo series).
➢Submitted photos must be taken by the entrant and must be related to JAIST.
➢Photos previously posted on social media or blogs may be submitted. (However, entries submitted to other contests or considered similar to such entries are not eligible.)
➢Photos edited with AI or other software are allowed, but the extent of AI use, editing details, and the software used must be clearly stated.

Alumni
Please submit your entries by email.
➢Attach one photo per email. (Large file transfer services may be used.)
➢Each photo must be between 1MB and 5MB.
➢Use the subject line: “JAIST Photo Contest 2025 Entry”
➢In the body of the email, please include the following information:

  1. Title (max. 15 words)
  2. Photo description (max. 50 words; will be used as a caption)
    *If your photo is edited using AI, please specify the extent of AI processing and software used.
  3. Affiliation (include graduation year if you are an alumnus/alumna)
  4. Full name
  5. Email address
  6. Pen name (If you prefer not to publish your name or affiliation, provide a pen name.)
  7. Consent from any identifiable individuals in the photo

Awards and Prize

Grand Prize (1 winner): 10,000 yen QUO card + Official mascot character goods
*The photo will appear on the cover of the PR magazine “JAIST NOW.”
Second Prize (1 winner): 5,000 yen QUO card
Creativity Award (3 winners): 2,000 yen QUO card
Audience Choice Award (3 winners): 1,000 yen QUO card

Selection Process

Entries will be reviewed by an internal selection committee.
The Audience Choice Award will be determined by public voting at the JAIST Festival on Saturday, October 25, 2025.
Winners will be contacted individually by the Public Relations Office.

Award Ceremony

We will hold the ceremony at the JAIST FESTIVAL on Saturday, October 25, 2025,

Copyright and Usage Rights

Copyright of submitted photos remains with the photographer.
However, submitted photos may be used free of charge for JAIST PR purposes, including on the website.

Important Notes

➢If people are identifiable in the photo, you must obtain their permission before submission.
➢Do not infringe on the copyright or portrait rights of others.
➢Entries that violate public order and morals, defame individuals, companies, or organizations, or infringe on privacy will not be accepted.
➢Personal information will be used only for purposes related to this contest.
➢Awards and prizes are subject to change without notice.
➢Inquiries regarding individual contest results or selection details will not be answered.
➢JAIST accepts no responsibility for disputes, complaints, or claims for damages made by third parties regarding submitted works, nor for any harm suffered by entrants or subjects in the photos.
