Japanese Cultural Excursions(2017)

JAIST organizes Japanese Cultural Excursions for international students to deepen their understanding of Japanese and local culture, while also deepening their exchanges with Japanese students.

Excursion 1: Japanese Tea Ceremony experience and Garden Tour

Date : Friday, June 16, 2017 (13:00~17:00)
Place : Nishida Family’s Gyokusen-en Garden and 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, KanazawaParticipants: 14 International Students, 2 Japanese students, 3 JAIST staff members

Itinerary :
13:00 JAIST→13:40 Gyokusen-en Garden (Japanese Tea Ceremony experience and Garden Tour)
15:15 Visiting 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa
16:15 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa→17:00 JAIST

The 1st Japanese Cultural Excursion in this year was taken place on June 16, 2017. 14 International students and 2 Japanese students visited Nishida Family’s Gyokusen-en Garden in Kanazawa. At the garden, they had a Japanese Tea Ceremony Experience and a garden tour. After seeing the “Saisetsu-tei” which is the oldest teahouse in Kanazawa, all the participants got lectured in English by hosts about the history of tea ceremony and the manners at teahouse. They were deeply impressed by the spirit of the tea ceremony and enjoyed a beautiful and delicate Japanese cake and tea. After the tea ceremony experience, they visited 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa.
Participant students from China, India, Vietnam, Taiwan, Austria and Japan deepened their exchange during the excursion, it was a meaningful opportunity for them to develop their understandings of Japanese culture.

Excursion 3: Visit the D.T.Suzuki Museum & Making Miso-bowl Experience

Date : Friday, February 23, 2018 (12:20~17:00)
Place : D.T.Suzuki Museum and Yamato Soy Sauce & Miso
Participants: 6 International Students, 1 Japanese students, 2 JAIST staff members

Itinerary:
12:20 JAIST→13:10 Visiting D.T.Suzuki Museum, Kanazawa
14:30 Yamato Soy sauce and Miso (Visiting Koji Park and Making MISO-bowl experience)
16:00 Yamato Soy sauce and Miso, Kanazawa→17:00 JAIST

The 3rd Japanese Cultural Excursion in this year was taken place on February 23 2018. 6 international students and 1 Japanese student visited D.T.Suzuki Museum and Yamato Soy Sause and Miso in Kanazawa.
At the Museum, they touched the Japanese "Zen" culture and they were impressed by the architecture of the museum which serves as an interpretation of D.T.Suzuki’s life and religious scholarship.
After that, they visited Yamato Soy Sauce and Miso in Ohno –Kanazawa which is popular among local people. They listened to an explanation of the products and KOJI first, and then, they experienced taking KOUJI hand-bath and making a Miso-bowl. The Participants were so surprised that KOUJI hand-bath made their hands very smooth. Thanks to a British staff clear explanations, they enjoyed both experiences very much.
The Participants from China, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Myanmar and Japan deepened their exchange during the excursion, it turned into a meaningful time for them to develop their understandings of Japanese culture.
