Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology invites applications for an assistant professor position in the SCHOOL OF INFORMATION SCIENCE. The appointee is expected to start her/his academic and educational activities at JAIST on October 1st, 2011.


Candidates have to be highly competent in conducting research work in Mathematical Logic and Foundations (such as constructive mathematics and reverse mathematics, including application to information science).



The primary objective of this position is to promote research and development activities in Theoretical Information Science.


2. Qualifications:

Applicants have to hold Ph.D. degree, and be qualified for high scientific activities through participating in domestic and international research initiatives. The search committee will ask candidates to present research activities together with a five-year research plan in Japanese or English.


3. Contract Term: 5 years (extendable)


4. Applicants must submit the following items:

(1) CV and photograph.

(2) A list of contributions and activities in academic societies such as editorship

for international journals and membership of conference program committees.

(3) A list of candidate’s research activities and accomplishments in reverse

chronological order according to the following categories: reviewed international journal publications, reviewed international conference papers, reviewed domestic journal and conference publications, and others.

(4) Hard copies of 3 most significant publications.

(5) Summary of main research activities (up to 1000 words).

(6) Plans for research activities (up to 1000 words).

(7) Plans for educational activities (up to 1000 words).

(8) Two support letters organized by the references or two names and contact

information (mailing address, e-mail, telephone and fax numbers) of the references.

7. Selection:

The search committee shall evaluate the candidates’ expertise, research activities, and teaching skills. The procedure for the evaluation is strictly impartial, unbiased, and fair, but the evaluation result of each applicant will not be released after the selection.
