Q&A
Q. When I try to connect to "JAIST" on Windows, I am prompted for a user name and password. What should I enter?
A. SSID:JAIST authenticates using a digital certificate. Username and password are not used. when the certificate has been properly imported into Windows, click "Connect using a certificate" that appears below the password input field. For more information, please read this page.

Q. What is a digital certificate?
A. Please see 4. Digital Certificates.

Q. Unable to connect to Wi-Fi.
A. First, please read the pages on how to set up your device for each operating system. If you still fail, please come to the reception desk of RCACI with your PC during the time when the Help Desk staff is available.

Q. Can I use JAIST Wi-Fi with multiple devices?
A. Yes, it is possible. However, you cannot issue multiple digital certificates. You will need to import one certificate onto multiple devices. Transfer the downloaded digital certificate file (with the extension .pfx or .p12) to another device by attaching it to an email or using online storage, then import it. Then refer to the Wi-Fi setting instructions page for your operating system.
*If you issue a certificate on a smartphone, the file may not be downloaded correctly. If you want to use a digital certificate on multiple devices, please use a PC (Windows, Mac OS) to initially issue and download the certificate.

Q. Can I use JAIST Wi-Fi on my smartphone(Android, iPhone)?
A. Yes, you can. Please move the digital certificate file obtained on your PC to your smartphone and refer to the page on how to set it up on Android or iOS.
* Smartphones with a minor operating system may not be able to connect to a Wi-Fi using a digital certificate and may not be able to use the JAIST Wi-Fi.

Q. What should I do if I want to use Wi-Fi with an ID and password?
A. Please consider using a student/personal eduroam ID. IDs and passwords for connecting to SSID:eduroam can be issued by each JAIST member.
(Please note that the expiration date is a maximum of 12 months, and that, unlike SSID:JAIST, this is an off-campus network.

Q. What is eduroam?
A. eduroam is a service for mutual use of campus wireless LANs at universities and other educational and research institutions. If you visit another university for an academic conference or collaborative research, you can use the Wi-Fi if that university is a member of eduroam. Since you can connect to eduroam within JAIST, we recommend that you issue an eduroam-ID to connect to eduroam before an academic conference or other event and check the connection. An eduroam-ID can be issued from the "eduroamJP Authentication Federation ID Service." (Detailed instructions for obtaining an eduroam-ID)
